Phiwa Nkambule started his journey as a tech founder informally as a 14 year old in Grade 9 in 2006 when he operated a computer repairs and tech support consultancy in his childhood township in Manzini, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).
8 years later, in October 2014 Phiwa then founded a tech startup that operated as a venture studio and incubator focused on cloud computing, internet of things, and big data analytics solutions, Cybatar.
It is within Cybatar that Nkambule founded Riovic in January 2015 to develop and release FinTech solutions.
Phiwa has served in multiple roles in the tech ecosystem including being the inaugural CTO of the Youth Employment Service (YES4Youth) in 2018 and serving on the board of the Royal Science and Technology Park between 2019 – 2021. He also worked for early stage VC and accelerator, Startupbootcamp, as an Entrepreneur in Residence responsible for technology.
Nkambule still plays an active role as an advisor in the broader venture capital landscape.
