Phiwa Nkambule (born 24 January 1992) is a technology entrepreneur, investor and software engineer. He is the co-founder and CEO of Riovic Capital Group and the co-founder of FinanceGPT Labs. He previously founded Cybatar, and sat on the board of the Royal Science and Technology Park.
Phiwa started his journey as a tech founder informally as a 14 year old in Grade 9 in 2006 when he operated a computer repairs and tech support consultancy in his childhood township in Manzini, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland).
8 years later, in October 2014 Phiwa then founded a venture studio and lab that focused on cloud computing, internet of things, and big data analytics solutions, Cybatar.
It is within Cybatar that Nkambule founded Riovic in January 2015 to develop and release FinTech solutions.
Nkambule has served in multiple roles in the tech ecosystem including being the inaugural CTO of the Youth Employment Service (YES4Youth) in 2018 and serving on the board of the Royal Science and Technology Park between 2019 – 2021.
He also worked for early stage VC and accelerator, Startupbootcamp, as an Entrepreneur in Residence responsible for technology and later served as mentor and advisor to cohort companies in Telecel Group African Startup Initiative Program and Meta Llama Design Drive programs. Phiwa has also served as an expert advisor for ALX Ventures.
Nkambule still plays an active role as an advisor in the broader venture capital landscape.
Phiwa Nkambule was invited to deliver a keynote address on Digital Technologies in Insurance at the 13th International Microinsurance Conference in Peru, South America in November 2017.
In June 2018, he was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list of the most promising entrepreneurs in the technology sector. In October 2018 he was named to the Destiny Man Power of 40 list, a list of 40 trailblazers under the age of 40.
In September 2020 Nkambule was one of the entrepreneurs listed in the book titled “Entrepreneurs Who Changed History” published by Dorling Kindersley, which profiled more than 90 industry leaders from around the world and from all eras – from ancient entrepreneurs and empire merchants, to industry titans and Silicon Valley intellectuals .
In December 2021, Phiwa was named Social Media Person of the Year by the Times of Swaziland. He was recognized as an influential and popular person on the Internet for speaking out and venting about the political turmoil in Eswatini through his Twitter account which was verified by the national publication.
